Your money has an amazing multiplier effect.

On Monday the 16th of June, the Kawa Foundation hosted the Tui Forest Tourism Launch 2025. It was a great pleasure to have our guest of honour, Honourable Dr Abdallah Mohammed Juma, Director, Department of Tourism in the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage, speak at the event. Our Director Suzanne Degeling presented the Honourable Dr Abdallah Mohammed Juma with our official booklet to commemorate the Tui Forest Tourism Launch 2025. We were also pleased to see over 30 organisations and parties represented at the event, showcasing the need for community engagement in ensuring our vision is successful.
The event began with tours of the 2.8 hectares. These tours showcased our ongoing efforts to plant, native, indigenous, medicinal and endangered species that will create a natural buffer zone to prevent the deforestation of Masingini Forest. We then moved to our observation deck, where speeches were food was provided by one of Kawa Foundation’s social enterprises, Café Blue.
Speeches followed, with our speech from Mr Tahir about the importance of community involvement in ensuring that our Tui Forest Project, and other projects like it, are effective in achieving their goals. One of Kawa Training Center’s past students, Mr Hamza also read a poem, highlighting the importance of our natural surroundings before closing remarks from our Director Suzanne Degeling.
We look forward to welcoming tourists this coming high-season, as we look to showcase Zanzibar’s best kept secret, Masingini Forest. Whilst many tourists visit for the beaches, the ‘Spice Island’ has more to offer, and we look forward to seeing the ongoing commitment from the Commission for Tourism and Heritage towards diversifying the tourism experiences on offer.
