This forest, rich in unique flora, fauna, and tranquil freshwater streams, is facing critical threats from urban sprawl, deforestation, and poaching. With the rapid population growth in Zanzibar, forested areas surrounding Masingini have been converted to residential spaces, placing this natural gem in peril.
We believe in the potential of sustainable tourism to provide alternative income sources for local communities, reducing their reliance on unsustainable practices while fostering a sense of stewardship for the environment. By expanding nature-based and cultural tourism activities, we can offer visitors a deeper connection to Zanzibar’s natural and cultural heritage, encouraging longer stays and boosting the island’s economy.
Your donation will directly support our efforts to establish a protective buffer zone between Masingini Forest and expanding residential areas. This includes land acquisition, reforestation, and providing nature education through outdoor classrooms.
